The 7th National Air Races were to be held in Spokane, Washington. The Air Race started in New York and ended up in Spokane. There was also the Pacific Coast Air Race that started in San Francisco, California and ended up in Spokane at the same time.Charles Lindbergh flew the Spirit of St. Louis to Spokane
to help kick off the Air Race but did not participate in the race. All the hype with Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic, and now making the rounds; around the USA in the famous airplane brought out the largest aviation event in history until it was surpassed by EAA at Oshkosh 50 years later.

that paralleled the 1927 Air Race and held the Grand Awards Ball at the famous Davenport Hotel just like they did in 1927, having the Miss Spokane present as well.
