    Description

Vintage Kelvin Hughes Periscope Sextant MK2 for DC3. This was received in an inventory of parts, and is for display or repair only. It is a well-built instrument, but there is no view through the lens, and the levers and knobs are stiff but most of them do turn or move. Last inspected in 1993. We believe this was used in DC3 aircraft and possibly others, and was a form of navigation used during World War II. It includes the case, eyepiece boot and a short what we believe is a power cord as shown in the photos. Prior to the satellite-based Global Positioning System (GPS) of 1973, aircraft navigators used celestial objects and the horizon to calculate their position and path. A sextant is an instrument which can measure the angle between any two visible objects, which allows one to determine their own location in relationship to those objects. The periscopic aircraft sextant is an optical sextant which mounts to the top of the aircraft allowing the navigator to view the sky from within an enclosed cockpit. Please visit our eBay store for more aircraft parts and aviation memorabilia including DC3 instrument panels, wheels, tires, control wheels, doors, wingtips, avionics, aircraft and pilot publications and much more.
